Kapiolani Medical Center Celebrates Its Youngest Superheroes with a Super Party
Kapiolani Medical Center celebrated its youngest superheroes with a super-charged, super-fun party in the playroom during National Superhero Day (April 28).
"This is the third year that we've celebrated National Superhero Day at the playroom. We feel it's really important to celebrate it here at Kapiolani because everyday we get to meet these young heroes, and we just want to be able to celebrate them," says Heather Tamaye, lead child life specialist at Kapiolani.
The second-floor playroom was transformed into a space fit for the medical center's little Supermen and Wonder Women, with carnival-inspired games re-imagined to meet the comic-book theme.
"We have games set up so that kids can play them and earn tickets and redeem them for prizes that have been generously donated by our community," says Child Life Specialist Megan Yee.
Established in 1995 by Marvel Comics, National Superhero Day is a time to honor heroes both real and fictional who serve and protect while fighting evil. The goal of the day is to teach children the importance of having heroes as well as being a hero to others.
