Hawaii Pacific Health Accepting Applications for 2020 Health Careers Summer Internship

Hawaii Pacific Health is now accepting applications for its 2020 Health Careers Summer Internship program. This unique paid internship program offers students a rare opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the health care industry, learn more about general operations within a hospital system and explore a variety of different health care professions. The six-week paid internship program runs June 22-July 31, 2020, on Oahu and June 15-July 24, 2020, on Kauai. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, March 6, 2020.

Hawaii Pacific Health Receives National Award for Health Information Technology

Hawaii Pacific Health has once again been named a recipient of the HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding achievement by organizations who have utilized health information technology, process improvement and organizational culture to substantially improve clinical outcomes and drive operational and financial value. HPH is the first three-time winner of the Davies Enterprise Award of Excellence since the program’s inception in 1994.

Hawaii Pacific Health Establishes New Medical Group for Employed Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers

Hawaii Pacific Health has united its employed physicians and advanced practice providers together under one operational structure to form the Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group. The group, which was officially formed on Dec. 15, 2019, is a not-for-profit corporate subsidiary of Hawaii Pacific Health comprised of nearly 700 physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care providers, and will provide a framework for increased collaboration, coordination, and consistency throughout the Hawaii Pacific Health system.

Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children Opens New Kobayashi & Kosasa Family Dining Room

As part of the continued build-out of the Diamond Head Tower, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children opens its new Kobayashi & Kosasa Family Dining Room to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019. Located on the second floor, the new space features a 9,000-square-foot kitchen and 14,000-square-foot dining room that is three times the size of the existing cafeteria. In addition to seven new serving areas -- Pizza, Grab & Go, Salad Bar, Entrée, Grill, Deli Bar and Action Station -- it also features a full-service licensed Starbucks.

The Backstreet Boys Surprise Super Fan and Pediatric Cancer Patient at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children

The Backstreet Boys demonstrated the shape of their hearts along with their aloha spirit during a surprise visit to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Group members Nick Carter and Brian Littrell stopped by Kapiolani right before their Nov. 5 concert at the Blaisdell Arena to visit with patients and staff, and to surprise pediatric cancer patient Jordan Ilae for her end-of-chemotherapy celebration.

Well-Known Physician Leader Named CEO of Newly Formed Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group

Dr. Leslie B. Chun, a local physician and health care leader, has been named chief executive officer of the Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group. The medical group, which will officially be formed on December 15, 2019, will bring together over 600 employed physicians and allied health care professionals under one operational structure. Chun has 15 years of experience over a wide range of the health care industry both in Hawaii and across the country as a practicing internist, educator, medical director for an international health care analytics company, and hospital administrator.

Kapiolani Medical Center Bids Aloha to Chief Canine Officer Winnie

Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children’s hospital facility dog Winnie is leaving her post as the medical center’s Chief Canine Officer as she and her handler, Kapiolani Pediatric Psychologist Dr. Wendi Major, are moving to the mainland. The animal-assisted therapy program at Kapiolani will continue with another dog from Assistance Dogs of Hawaii and a new handler once training is complete.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels Presents Kapiolani with $100,000 Hyundai Impact Award Grant to Support Pediatric Cancer Research

Hyundai Hope On Wheels®(HHOW), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supported by Hyundai and its U.S. dealers, presented Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children with a $100,000 Hyundai Impact Award Grant to continue its long-standing fight against pediatric cancer. Kapiolani is one of 77 recipients receiving a combined $16 million in new grants this year to develop innovative approaches to finding a cure for the disease.

Kapiolani's 2019 Radiothon for Kids Breaks Records with an Incredible $300,138 Finish

In its 13th year, the 2019 Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids raised a remarkable $300,138 in two days. For 28 hours on-air, radio listeners tuned in to KSSK 92.3FM/AM 590 to hear inspiring stories about how Kapiolani cares for some of the most medically fragile children and their families. Kapiolani has partnered with KSSK since 2006 to take to the airwaves with live broadcasts that bring awareness and funding to programs and services for pediatric medicine. The 2019 results bring the overall total amount raised to $2 million in the event’s history.

Kapiolani Medical Center Provides Free Cervical and Breast Cancer Screenings for Uninsured and Underinsured Women

Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children recently offered free cervical and breast cancer screenings as well as other information and education on women’s health for uninsured and underinsured women as part of the See, Test & Treat program. Held through a grant from the College of American Pathologists Foundation, the free cancer screening and health education program is designed to remove barriers to early cancer detection in underserved populations and to empower women to take charge of their own health and well-being.

Kamehameha Schools and Hawaii Pacific Health join forces for greater community impact

Kamehameha Schools and Hawaii Pacific Health are joining forces in an effort to improve the education, health, economic stability and social well-being of students and families across Hawaii. Kamehameha Schools’ Chief Executive Officer Jack Wong and Hawaii Pacific Health’s President and CEO Ray Vara signed a memorandum of agreement to work together toward shared goals of creating more resilient children and strengthening families through education, economic empowerment, expanded career pathways, increased aina-based experiences, improved community health and advancement of the Hawaiian culture and language.

JN Group Has a Big Heart for Cardiac Kids Giving $20,000 to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children

JN Group, Inc. presented a $20,000 gift to Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children in support of the medical center's pediatric heart care program. The donation was made up of a portion of sales during JN Group’s “Drive for Heart Care” campaign.

Kapiolani Patient and Cancer Survivor Lily Lyman Named Hawaii's 2019 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Champion

Lily Lyman, a 13-year-old Kapiolani patient and cancer survivor who is a student at Le Jardin Academy, was recognized at an assembly hosted at her school as Hawaii’s 2019 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) Champion. Lily will serve as the CMN ambassador for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, joining other CMN Hospitals Champions nationwide who will share their stories throughout the year to help illustrate why children’s hospitals need local charitable support.

Super Finish for the Ko Olina Children's Festival as Community Raises $65,000 for Kapiolani Medical Center

The sixth annual Ko Olina Children’s Festival drew more than 2,000 people with proceeds totaling $65,000 and benefiting Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Funds from this annual festival support Kapiolani’s efforts to provide health care services and specialized programs for women and children regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Over the past six years, a total of $340,000 has been raised by the Ko Olina Children’s Festival to benefit Kapiolani.
