Obstetricians take care of women throughout their entire pregnancy, delivery and postpartum time. A gynecologist typically will provide annual health checkups, including pelvic and breast exams. They also provide care for gynecologic issues such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, infertility, menopausal symptoms, pelvic organ prolapse, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), sexually transmitted infections, vaginal infections or heavy, painful and/or irregular periods.
