Crane lift scheduled to deliver new MRI equipment to Straub Benioff Medical Center Sunday, May 19, 2024
Construction work continues at Straub Benioff Medical Center to accommodate an upgrade of our magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, which will enhance our health care services.
The construction team is planning to use a crane lift to deliver the new MRI equipment Sunday, May 19, 2024. Preparations for the crane lift will start at about 6 a.m. with activities concluding around 6 p.m. During this time, please expect the following:
- Three east-bound lanes on the left side of South King Street will be blocked and barricaded to accommodate space for the crane and staging area.
- Two east-bound lanes on the right side of South King Street will be open to vehicle traffic.
- The main entrance to the medical center on South King Street will be barricaded.
- Vehicular traffic to the drop-off area and parking garage will continue to be accessed from South King Street but will be redirected using the exit side.
- Traffic controllers will be present to help direct vehicular traffic in and out of the medical center as needed.
- The bike lane and pedestrian sidewalk will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Bike lane users and pedestrians are asked to use the Hotel Street or South King Street makai sidewalk if traveling west.
- Pedestrians are advised to use the Hotel Street entrance or the pedestrian stairs located near the parking garage to enter the medical center.
- The oversize parking lot will be closed during the crane lift.
- Ramp access located adjacent to the Palma Building basement will be closed. The Hotel Street entrance can be used as an alternative access path.
