Kathleen Oakes

Kathleen Oakes

Kathleen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999 and had a lumpectomy. She also had her lymph nodes removed where the cancer had spread. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation and has been cancer-free ever since. “Since I have a family history of cancer, I wasn’t depressed or down,” said Kathleen. “My mom had breast cancer in 1950 and she supported me through all my doctor appointments, treatments and support group meetings, and that helped a lot.” Kathleen knows that cancer of any kind is scary but she remained focused on her treatment plan and doing what she needed to do to get well. Kathleen is retired and volunteers at Kapiolani Women’s Center.
