Introduction to Bariatric Surgery
Bariatrics is the treatment and prevention of obesity. Being overweight or obese contributes to many health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, and bone and joint problems. Bariatric treatments range from diet, exercise and behavioral therapy, to medications and surgery.
Our goal is to help each patient achieve greater health and an improved quality of life. Our bariatric specialists work with each patient to find the most appropriate and effective treatment plan for the individual.
The bariatric surgery program at the Pali Momi 360° Weight Management Center gives patients the chance to reach their weight-loss goals through a time-tested operation that has proven effective in treating the following obesity-related conditions:
- Diabetes
- Dyslipidemia
- Gallbladder disease
- Hypertension
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Osteoarthritis
- Sleep apnea
The fully accredited, comprehensive bariatric surgery program offers metabolic and bariatric surgery options focused on a lifestyle transformation to better health and wellness. In addition to surgery, patients receive 24/7 access to Pali Momi’s team of experts, as well as nutritional guidance, support groups and more.
Program Medical Director Mark Grief, MD, is a bariatric surgeon who trained under the renowned bariatric surgery pioneer Ninh T. Nguyen, MD, of UC Irvine. Grief has performed more than 400 bariatric operations and has more than 27 years of experience as a general surgeon in Hawaii.
