Hawaii’s Walmart and Sam’s Club Stores Raise $383,060 for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children
Cow bells, a pie-throwing event and generous local donors all helped Hawaii Walmart and Sam’s Club stores raise more money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals than any other market in the country in 2021. Hawaii’s 13 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations raised $383,060.83 for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, Hawaii’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
Straub Medical Center Staff Reunites With COVID-19 Survivor During Tear-Filled Ceremony
COVID-19 survivor Paul Greenslade and his wife, Karen, returned to Straub Medical Center nearly two years after his hospitalization for COVID-19 to reunite with the health care workers who helped save his life, and witness the unveiling of a new bench for the medical center's Healing Garden and a plaque commemorating Paul’s "second life." The bench was purchased through a donation made by the Greenslades to Straub in honor of the nurses, physicians and support staff who had cared for Paul.
Wilcox Medical Center Blesses New Generators That Will Keep Kauai's Hospital Powered Through Outages for Decades to Come
Three new generators that will provide electricity to Wilcox Medical Center during emergencies and power outages were blessed during a ceremony that celebrated these critical, one-megawatt power sources. The new generator system will provide uninterrupted power for hospital operations at Wilcox Medical Center when needed, and was a collaborative project between Wilcox and federal, state and county agencies.

Straub Medical Center Commemorates 100th Anniversary With Groundbreaking for Redevelopment Project
Straub Medical Center, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, held a groundbreaking to officially kickoff a comprehensive, redevelopment project for its current campus. The project will create a health care campus of the future that will provide the space, tools and resources necessary to impact all aspects of patient health – prevention, treatment, access and affordability. When completed, the multi-year project will be nearly triple the existing size at 760,000 square feet and will be a state-of-the-art health care campus that will truly reflect the quality of care Straub is known to deliver.
Hawaii Pacific Health Employees Donate More Than $1 Million to Support Patient Care Through Annual Employee Giving Campaign
As part of the 2021 Hawaii Pacific Health Employee Giving Campaign, nearly 4,000 employees raised a total of $1,068,127 through generous donations of either gifts or pledges, which will go toward Hawaii Pacific Health medical programs and services that directly benefit the local community. This is the fifth straight year that employees have raised at least $1 million to support the organization’s mission to create a healthier Hawaii.
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children Welcomes New Chief Canine Officer Ruby
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children's new Chief Canine Officer Ruby is a two-year-old Labrador Retriever who serves as a full-time Hospital Facility Dog for the medical center. Trained and donated by Assistance Dogs of Hawaii, Ruby works with pediatric patients, families and staff at the medical center.

A record $427,575 in donations for the 2020 Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids showed how much the community is pulling closer together this year to support Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Held virtually for the first time in the event's 14-year history due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event included one of the largest participant pools ever with the commitment of iHeartRadio, KSSK 92.3 radio personalities, sponsors, online phone bank teams, Kapiolani patient families and staff members taking donor calls.

Kapiolani Patient Haumea Friel Named Hawaii's 2020 Children's Miracle Network Champion
Haumea Friel, a 5-year-old Kapiolani patient, will share her message of courage and strength as the 2020 Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Champion for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. As part of Wilcox Medical Center’s 80th anniversary celebration, descendants of its founder George Norton (G.N.) Wilcox are donating $125,000 in his honor. Wilcox family members – who include Kelley Carswell and family, Dr. Richard Goodale and family, David Pratt with sons Sam and Bill Pratt, and Kathy Richardson and family – are using this milestone anniversary to embark on a campaign to raise funds to upgrade the medical center’s Emergency Department and expand its trauma services for the Kauai community.
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children Opens New Kobayashi & Kosasa Family Dining Room
As part of the continued build-out of the Diamond Head Tower, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children opens its new Kobayashi & Kosasa Family Dining Room to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019. Located on the second floor, the new space features a 9,000-square-foot kitchen and 14,000-square-foot dining room that is three times the size of the existing cafeteria. In addition to seven new serving areas -- Pizza, Grab & Go, Salad Bar, Entrée, Grill, Deli Bar and Action Station -- it also features a full-service licensed Starbucks.
The Backstreet Boys Surprise Super Fan and Pediatric Cancer Patient at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children
The Backstreet Boys demonstrated the shape of their hearts along with their aloha spirit during a surprise visit to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Group members Nick Carter and Brian Littrell stopped by Kapiolani right before their Nov. 5 concert at the Blaisdell Arena to visit with patients and staff, and to surprise pediatric cancer patient Jordan Ilae for her end-of-chemotherapy celebration.
Hyundai Hope on Wheels Presents Kapiolani with $100,000 Hyundai Impact Award Grant to Support Pediatric Cancer Research
Hyundai Hope On Wheels®(HHOW), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supported by Hyundai and its U.S. dealers, presented Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children with a $100,000 Hyundai Impact Award Grant to continue its long-standing fight against pediatric cancer. Kapiolani is one of 77 recipients receiving a combined $16 million in new grants this year to develop innovative approaches to finding a cure for the disease.
Kapiolani's 2019 Radiothon for Kids Breaks Records with an Incredible $300,138 Finish
In its 13th year, the 2019 Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids raised a remarkable $300,138 in two days. For 28 hours on-air, radio listeners tuned in to KSSK 92.3FM/AM 590 to hear inspiring stories about how Kapiolani cares for some of the most medically fragile children and their families. Kapiolani has partnered with KSSK since 2006 to take to the airwaves with live broadcasts that bring awareness and funding to programs and services for pediatric medicine. The 2019 results bring the overall total amount raised to $2 million in the event’s history.
