Women and girls of all ages laced up their shoes and lined up at Kapiolani Park for the 47th annual Hawaii Pacific Health Women’s 10K & 5K Fun Run. More than 1,000 participants registered for this year’s race. Community partners, supporters and volunteers cheered as participants made their way through Diamond Head and Kahala.
The state’s only all-female sanctioned race began at 7 a.m., just after sunrise. Dr. Mary Craig, a Kapiolani physician, was the first to cross the finish line, completing the 10K in 40 minutes and 35 seconds.
“Part of the reason I went into medicine is because I love helping others fulfill their goals of a healthy lifestyle,” Craig said. “To be able to practice that is really important to me, my patients, environment and community.”
Craig also won the 2025 Martha B. Smith Award, which recognizes the HPH employee with the fastest time for the Women’s 10K.
The 5K Fun Run, which draws many younger runners, started 20 minutes after the 10K began. This year’s 5K winner was one of the race’s youngest competitors. 13-year-old Hailey Taira, a Mililani Middle School student, ran the 3.1 miles in 24 minutes and 49 seconds to take first place.
“I enjoyed that the race was all women,” Taira said. “It was encouraging to see, and it helped to keep me going, just to see how good we can all be.”
The top three finishers in each age division were recognized in an awards ceremony following the race. There were a total of 15 age divisions, from 14-years-old-and-under to 80-years-old-and-over. Awards were also handed out for the fastest finishers in the following categories: stroller, teams of three, military, corporate challenge and school challenge.
“What I saw today was the whole community coming together to support the healthier Hawaii we’re looking for at Hawaii Pacific Health,” said Jan Boivin, HPH senior vice president of human resources and organizational effectiveness. “I was here with my daughter, who’s 16. In our area, there were a bunch of mom-daughter pairs to celebrate the day. You can see all of the services that are here to support Hawaii , and that’s what we’re here for at Hawaii Pacific Health.”
All participants received a rose, commemorative medal, finisher’s T-shirt and souvenir bag.
