Hawaii Pacific Health today announced that three of its hospitals – Straub Clinic & Hospital, Pali Momi Medical Center and Wilcox Memorial Hospital -- have been named to a select national group of hospitals identified as providing outstanding performance in the delivery of a positive experience for patients during their hospital stay. The award is presented by Healthgrades, the leading online resource that helps consumers search, evaluate, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals.
According to a Healthgrades 2013 study, both Pali Momi and Straub are among the top five-percent of hospitals in the country recognized for outstanding patient experience. Straub has received this award for four years in a row and Pali Momi has received the award for three consecutive years. This is the first year that Wilcox Memorial Hospital has received the award, placing Wilcox in the top 15-percent of hospitals nationwide for outstanding patient experience.
To be eligible for the Healthgrades 2013 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, Straub, Pali Momi and Wilcox needed to meet the clinical quality threshold for this award as ranked by average z-score across the conditions and procedures that Healthgrades evaluates using Medicare data. Hospitals must also have data for at least 100 Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys in order to reliably assess performance.
“At Hawaii Pacific Health, our patients are our priority. We have created a culture around operational excellence to give them the best care possible,” said Ray Vara, president and CEO. “Our team focuses on providing high quality care with exceptional service to every patient and this award validates our outstanding commitment.”
“As hospitals continue to struggle with the delivery of high-quality, safe care in the face of mounting financial and regulatory pressures, the hospitals who have achieved Healthgrades 2013 Outstanding Patient Experience Award stand above the rest in terms of providing the most positive experience for patients during their hospital stay,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “This exceptional performance reflects a commitment to superior quality of clinical care.”
