OFFERING INFORMATION:
This offering is intended for Nurses and Nurse Aides who work with patients in the burn unit.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Examine the anatomy and physiology of skin, burn depth severity and the size of the burn (total body surface area).
2. Interpret hemodynamic changes.
3. Assess and calculate fluid resuscitation and urine output.
4. Examine the mechanism of burns and other skin conditions.
5. Prioritize care following the emergent phase and rehabilitative phase.
6. Determine burn wound management priorities depending on burn etiology.
7. Manage the need for pain management.
8. Develop effective communication skills with other members of the burn care team.
9. Counsel patients and patient family members on post-hospital care and burn education.
10. Determine the roles of team members in a mass casualty incident.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
In support of improving patient care, Hawai‘i Pacific Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Hawai‘i Pacific Health has approved this activity is approved for 3.5 contact hours for nurses.
