HPH Nursing Academies are a great option for experienced nurses who would like to transition to a new area of specialty, or for the new graduate nurse who would like to pursue becoming a specialized nurse.

About HPH Nursing Academies

Since 2009, Hawaii Pacific Health has led training efforts in the state for new graduate and specialty nurse training. Known as our Hawaii Pacific Health Nursing Academies, these programs provide training opportunities for nurses who are new to practice or new to specialty.

Led by an experienced nurse educator, each program includes a combination of classroom instruction, online learning, simulation training and on-unit precepted training.

The academies range from eight weeks to 24 weeks in duration, depending on the specialty.

How to Apply to a Nursing Academy Program

As they are available, academies are posted as a “Registered Nurse – Academy” on our Careers website. In the search bar at the top of the page, type in keyword academy.

Complete the online application and be sure to include the following:

  • Employment history, to include the past 10 years, even if not related to nursing or health care.
  • Education history, to include your nursing degree information.
  • Credentials, to include your Hawaii RN License number.

If you are currently employed at Hawaii Pacific Health, you must apply online through HERO in the Opportunities section. Please update your Talent Profile with current employment history, education with your nursing degree information, and current HI RN License number.

Once you have submitted your application, our Human Resources team will review your information and contact you via phone or email should we need additional information, or to provide information on next steps in the process. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process for being considered for a Nursing Academy?

  • Candidates must have a complete online application.
  • Hawaii Pacific Health will contact eligible candidates to complete an online assessment if applicable.
  • A select number of candidates will be invited to participate in a virtual interview.

How will I be notified if I’m accepted into a Nursing Academy?

  • Once interviews are completed, Hawaii Pacific Health will contact selected candidates to notify them of their acceptance and go over offer requirements.
  • Hawaii Pacific Health nurse educators will contact candidates one week prior to the start of the Academy to notify them of their schedule.
  • Those who were not selected will be notified through email.

What will my schedule be if accepted into the Nursing Academy?

  • Participants will work a full-time schedule and must be available for rotation to evening or night shift, and any shift length (four, eight, or 12 hours) during program.
  • The nurse educator will be in touch with your schedule a week prior to the start of the academy.

What will I be doing during the Nursing Academy?

  • Candidates will participate in a combination of classroom instructional training, simulation and unit-based preceptorship.

What happens after the Nursing Academy?

  • Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will transition into a full-time RN position on the unit.
    • Shift is dependent on what current openings are available at the time of transfer.
