Cancer care teams are made up of physicians who specialize in different aspects of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Some may be known as medical oncologists, who treat cancer with medicines such as chemotherapy, some are surgical oncologists, who remove tumors and perform biopsies, and others are called radiation oncologists, who treat cancer with radiation therapy. Pediatric Medical Oncology

A pediatric oncologist treats cancer in children and teenagers, including such types as certain brain tumors, leukemia, osteosarcoma, and Ewing’s sarcoma. 

Medical Oncology

The medical oncologist often coordinates the activities of a patient’s treatment team. The medical oncologist treats cancer patients with systemic therapies including chemotherapy, biotherapy and other cancer-fighting drugs.

Surgery

A surgical oncologist is a doctor who uses surgery to remove tumors. Most surgical oncologists specialize in treating one or more types of cancer that occur in a specific organ (such as the liver, lungs, bone, or skin), organ system (such as the nervous or hormonal system), or region of the body (such as breast or head and neck).
